The Symposium on Internet Services and Enabling Technologies (ISET) 2006 took place in conjunction with IEEE Globecom in San Francisco, California, USA on November 30, 2006.

The members of the technical program committee did a very good job in providing detailed and in depth reviews in a timely manner. This enabled a very smooth review process. Of the 52 papers that were submitted to the ISET symposium, 21 were accepted. This corresponds to an acceptance rate of ~40%.

The resulting program was of very good quality with many interesting papers. It featured three distinct sessions that were grouped around the topics network service design and deployment, peer-to-peer services and technologies, and service-enabling protocols and extensions. In addition, there was a joint poster session with the World Class Solutions (WCS) symposium that covered a broader scope with topics on networking and services.

After all submissions were received, a merger between the ISET, the World Class Solutions (WCS) and Next Generation Networks (NGN) symposia was discussed since these were the smallest symposia on Globecom. The discussion concluded with the decision to keep ISET as a separate one day symposium.

Attendance of the symposium was good in all three sessions throughout the day. Sessions were attended by an estimated 30-40 people and could attract listeners from other symposia that took place in parallel. Overall, the symposium did generate a good amount of interested and showed that the topic of service enabling technologies is very relevant. This could warrant a follow-up symposium that covers the Internet services domain.
